8. Communication Technologies

A) Summary from website

Very broadly defined, communication technology includes the technology, design, and equipment related to the processing and transfer of messages/information.
Compared to the past, communication technologies have rapidly developed along with the invention of computer and the Internet networks. Of course, the technology of communication also exists in the past by various methods such as telephone, facsimile and television set, etc. Those facilitators enable the people to speedily communicate with each other as well as with ones far distant away from places. Furthermore, as the industry has increasingly developed, the communication technologies also have rapidly developing with advancement of information technology.

Television
Commercially available since the late 1930s, the television set has become a common household communications device in homes and institutions, particularly in the First World, as a source of entertainment and news. Many people get much information through the television set such as news, weather, stock markets information as well as the other country’s politics, economic, and cultural news.

Radio
Early uses of radio were maritime, for sending telegraphic messages using Morse code between ships and land. Radio also was used to pass on orders and communications between armies and navies on both sides in World War Ⅰ; Germany used radio communications for diplomatic messages once its submarine cables were cut by the British. Today, radio takes many forms, including wireless networks and mobile communications of all types, as well as radio broadcasting. Before the advent of television, commercial radio broadcasts included not only news and music, but drams, comedies, variety shows, and many other forms of entertainment.

Telephone
The telephone is a telecommunications device that is used to transmit and receive sound, usually two people conversing but occasionally three or more. It is one of the most common household appliances in the world today.
Early telephones were technically diverse. Some used a liquid transmitter, some had a metal diaphragm that induced current in an electromagnet wound around a permanent magnet, and some were "dynamic" - their diaphragm vibrated a coil of wire in the field of a permanent magnet or the coil vibrated the diaphragm.
Early telephones were locally powered, using a dynamic transmitter or else powering the transmitter with a local battery. During the 20th century, "common battery" operation came to dominate, powered by "talk battery" from the telephone exchange over the same wires that carried the voice signals. Late in the century, wireless handsets brought a revival of local battery power.
At first, the benefits of an exchange were not exploited. Telephones instead were leased in pairs to the subscriber, who had to arrange telegraph contractors to construct a line between them, for example between his home and his shop.

Mass Media
Mass Media is a term used to denote a section of the media specifically envisioned and designed to reach a very large audience such as the population of a nation state. The term public media has a similar meaning: it is the sum of the public mass distributors of news and entertainment across mediums such as newspapers, television, radio, broadcasting, which require union membership in large markets. The concept of mass media is complicated in some internet media as now individuals have a means of potential exposure on a scale comparable to what was previously restricted to select group of mass media producers. These internet media can include television, personal web pages, podcasts, and blogs.

The Internet
The Internet is a worldwide, publicly accessible series of interconnected computer networks. It is a "network of networks" that consists of millions of smaller domestic, academic, business, and government networks, which together carry various information and services. The Internet has made possible entirely new forms of social interaction, activities and organizing, thanks to its basic features such as widespread usability and access.

B) My opinion
Technologies used to transmit data. There is a wide range of communication technologies available. These fall into broad groups of either cable(land) based or wireless. Wireless technologies include radio, microwave and satellite. Wireless technologies generally require less infrastructure, but can be more expensive to use than cable based technologies.
Besides that mentioned above, communication technologies are very diverse and are increasingly developing to the positive direction for pursuing human being convenience and industry growth over time. Especially, developing of information technology leads to expand the breadth and depth of communication in an organization or among the individuals.
Today the gap of information technology among the individuals, organizations, or countries leads to the difference of communication technologies. Unlike in the past, the advancement of communication technologies enables people, organizations and countries to largely spread the scope of communication, and speed up its delivery. In addition, diverse and speedy communication technologies such as television, radio, telephone, the Internet as well as email, and blogs enables the country to increase the economy growth and improve the way of social life.
